5 year old spayed female dog humping my 4 month old male dog

I have a 5 year old female collie mix and we just got a 4 month old whippet mix and the 5 year old female is humping my 4 month old male. this is kinda horrid cause she does it no matter where we go could be on a walk, just out side, inside , middle of the night... i am sick of it she is being stupid imo. ready to just get rid of her. and trust me raiseing 60 some sled dogs and i never had this issue. I even put a E-collar on her and every time i catch her i zap her she got to the point now where if she see's me she doesnt do it but soon as get out of sight she does it i had to put up mirrors all over to keep an eye on her so if i leave the room i have like 15 mirrors leading to where i am at. and if i see her mounting him i give her a hefty zap but its not working She is spayed he is not neutered yet. If there is a reason for this and if anyone has a clue i am willing to hear it. otherwise i am going to start thinking she is transexual or something... going to pawn her off soon tho if she doesnt get over this habbit

Hi Erez, ------ The reason is NOT sex but dominance. She is saying to the young puppy: "I am the boss her". That's all and that is very natural and very expected. Don't pay too much attention, after the puppy will "understand" and accept her as dominant ( = leader) it will end. --------- Best regards,

PLEASE DO NOT GIVE HER AWAY JUST TELL HER NO AND THEN GIVE HER A TREAT WHEN YOU SAY NO,THAT MIGHT HELP.ASK YOUR VET IF YOU CAN DO ANYTHING ELSE OR CALL THE DOG WHISPER. I THINK SHE WILL STOP IF YOU GIVE HER A TREAT TELL HER TO BE GOOD. PLEASE KEEP HER SHE WOULD BE THERE FOR YOU IF YOU NEEDED HER.

Your female dog is not being stupid as you suggested. Whenever she was spayed possibly the veterinarian did not do a complete hysterectomy as in humans some get only a partial hysterectomy. Your female seems to want to show her dominance over the male maybe because she's older than he is, maybe because she still ovulates too, even though she is unable to become pregnant.

You are punishing her for what comes natural to an animal who has been spayed, most likely partially. Imagine if you were to get jolts of electricity each time you felt an urge to show your dominance or each time you felt the need to have sex but were not being satisfied. It is probably best to find your female dog a more loviong home where her behavior would not be so bothersome. I did have an elderly lady friend who has died ... she played a piano and next to the piano was a big stuffed sheep a fake stuffed animal everytime she played the paino the dog would hump the fake sheep it was comical to the elderly woman. You are dealing with animals who act like animals. People sometimes expect animals to have good manners or not "act stupid" . To me your best choice is to find a better home for this dog you seem to dislike so much. For her sake i hope it is a loving home where she can be more understood and have a vet finish the job that was not completed.

reply to rose young-stewart its not that i dont love her I do love her just this behavior is not good for our home with a 1 year old daughter.I have many sled dogs and none of them act in this behavior and those are all out door dogs. spayed neutered some of them... I love the dog very much she was given to me as a gift from my husband had her from just a pup but this behavior is not acceptable in the house if it was out side fine could care less as long as no one was getting pregnant i could care less what they do out there. I have a male he is my main stud he humps this large ball thats in his kennel daily. and I am not bothered by it. But for her to be doing this inside to this young pup need to stop I dont need her doing this in front of my young daughter who is soon going to be talking... and i am not about to tell her oh she is humping the crap out of the dog cause she is horny... If anything i would send her to my dads house so i can see here anytime he lives a mile down the road and has no dogs there.

it is the way you view sex that will leave an impression on your child. if you try to hide it, she will wonder. One yr old is not too young to wonder although the amt of info will satisfy her as long as you dont make it sound bad or insane or terrible or curse the animals behavior it is a natural thing.. flowers do it, insects do it, every living being on Earth has sex. It is nothing to be ashamed of. Especially uner your own roof.It depends too if you live in a high rise in the city or if you live on a farm in the country and are used to seeing this behavior among animals.to say they are playing is ok to your child. to say the dogs are acting stupid or they are being bad,is the wrong impression to give her. Maybe her pediatrician can offer you advice on what to tell her. I am only a retired nurse maybe i am too old to understand about how todays youth view sex.

Grow Up!!!! This isn't sexual at all! It just means that the older dog (IE: THE "HUMPER" ) OR THE ONE ON TOP is showing their Dominance! The old dog ie: the one on top is telling or talking/communicating to the younger dog that "hey, I was here first and I'm the dominant one Im in charge!". I just feel so sorry for the dog thats getting "zapped" for trying to do what is just in their nature. Protect what is theirs and show that they are the "alpha male" so to speak. You really should try to understand how animals communicate before you start "zapping" and punishing them for doing what is in their nature.

My german sheperd bitch was 6 years old when we brought home the german sheperd-border collie cross boy dog who was 9 months old. She was fixed and all, but very jealous and she would hump him. It is normal, she's telling him she's the boss and he's the new guy. Sometimes she would snap at him if she didn't hump him. It is a natural process that dogs go through. But if this is bothering you so much, find her a better place and focus on the younger dog. But it will stop, once the dynamics of the pack are re-adjusted, and this happens naturally.

well i fixed my issue i gave the female dog to my dad he needed a companion anyway since he lives alone. and she loves it there plenty of woods to run threw and a huge feild to chase whatever she wants. just needs to watch out for those wolf packs that run threw his area. i guess the other day she tried to attack one but she bit off to more then she could handle and my dad had to scare the wolf off before he ate her. and then had to lock her in the house for a few hrs. but she is none the less happy there and she has free run of the 80 achers of land...

Your older dog is showing the younger dog who is the boss. Humping is not all about sex but also about dominance. Since you raised dogs before you should know dogs are pack animals and always have a top dog in the pack. Now that the 5-year old dog has competition she wants to proove being the top dog. This is very normal dog behavior, no matter if the dog is spayed, neutered or not. Don't be stupid and take the electric collar off since it might actually burn the skin and obviously doesn't work. Dogs can always settle any issues among themselves. It's only when humans get involved and project their feelings and beliefs on animals trouble starts. If you want the behavior to stop try to distract the collie when she is humping. Make it work for treats since positive reinforcement works the best (for humans too). Also pay more attention to the older dog so she doesn't feel threatened by the puppy so much. She needs to know she is still number one.
