This condition is usually a side effect of the use of medications that are serotonin uptake inhibitors like haldol. the treatment is to use cogintin commitantly with the haldol or geodon. it is treatable, but cannot always be eliminated with a theraputic dose of the antipsychotic drug

Tardive dystonia could be related to psychological/psychiatric problems in that neuroleptic medications that are used to treat certain psychiatric conditions, such as schizophrenia, may cause tardive dyskinesia or tardive dystonia, or both. It is best to check with a doctor to see what is causing it. There may be medications that will alleviate tardive dystonia. Sometimes reducing the dosage of certain medications or discontinuing them (follow doctor's orders) may help.

I imagine that a physical condition that may be painful, such as tardive dystonia, would affect someone psychologically, could have psychological origin, or could be psychosomatic, but since I am not an expert, again, I would check with a doctor.
