For plants I recommend the following: Foxglove, Fern, Peonies, Roses such as Betty Prior and the Carefree Blanket Roses, Pennywort, Primroses, and plenty of bulbs both spring and summer/fall blooming like hyacinths and spring and fall blooming crocus and rhizomes such as iris.
Try White Flower Farm's website for more ideas. While the rule is groups of threes, for a sophisticated Cottage Garden which looks as if it has been there for a while and grown naturally I like to plant in "drifts". Also pay attention to benches and a few selective pieces of statuary (age it with stain or brush it with milk and leave it in the shade to get mossy). Cottage Garden magazine has a lot of great ideas.

<foaf:maker><foaf:Person><foaf:name>Jade</foaf:name><foaf:gender>female</foaf:gender><yedda:age>47</yedda:age><foaf:homepage rdf:resource="http://yedda.com/people/951077441982385/?src=rss:qb:ap" /><foaf:img rdf:resource="http://static1.yeddacdn.com/resources/00000029604/8cc2df2d1f8e9a6.gif" /></foaf:Person></foaf:maker><yedda:post><yedda:type>answer</yedda:type><yedda:thread previous="http://yedda.com/questions/Cottage_Landscape_garden_home_862458240153837/rule_improve_soil_nbsp_Second_obey_951578871484389" /><yedda:rating>3.0</yedda:rating></yedda:post>

RE: Cottage Landscape

Home Outside: Creating the Landscape You Love- full of beautiful photographs, ideas and landscape diagrams. Great source for inspiration and ideas...
