I was looking at the Fellowes 32177 Powershred PS-77Cs Shredder. It seems awfully expensive to me at over $100.00. What is it that a pricey shredder like the Fellowes 32177 Powershred PS-77Cs Shredder can do that makes it better than something I can pick up for much less?

Fellowes 32177 Powershred PS-77Cs is not quite top of the line, but is only a few dollars away from the highest price. You're talking office quality, industrial strength here. If you're just looking for something to shred junk mail at home, you don't need it...unless you get a huge huge huge supply of junk mail.
