Obama Returned Englands Gift?

Tony Blair gifted Bush with a sculptured head of Winston Churchill upon his visit to our nation after the 9/11 attack. When the British Prime Minister, Brown came for his recent visit, Obama returned that gift back to the British Prim Minister. What was that about? Any ideas?

Michelle Obama has a grudge against the British because they played a part in slave trade years ago. It was a insult to the British for Obama to return the bust and they have been our biggest allie. Such a sad time for America.....

The bust was a loan from Britain, for the first term of office of President Bush. When the President was elected for his second and final term, the loan was extended until January 2009. "The new President has decided not to continue this loan and the bust has now been returned.

A White House spokesperson says the Churchill bust was removed before Obama's inauguration as part of the usual changeover operations, adding that every president puts his own stamp on the Oval Office.

Mr Obama, who prefers to cite the words and works of his hero Abraham Lincoln, now indeed has a bust of Mr Lincoln sitting in the Oval Office where Epstein's Churchill once ruled the roost.

Every President gets to decorate their office as they please. He shouldn’t have to keep something that was loaned to George Bush when he has his own favorite hero. Since it was a loan, he did right to return it.

I thank you kindly for that explaination. I now also agree that what he did was the right thing and he does have the proper right to decorate his oval office according to his preferences.

Jennifer,

I was concerned about this event for the same reasons that you have mentioned here. That is why I requested thoughts from others. I had not realized that this bust was on loan from England until after reading Tippy's response.

I feel more comfortable now with the return of the Bust. Obama certainly does have the right to decorate his oval office with his mentor, Lincoln.

Now if I could understand bettery why he chose to not have a formal State Dinner for the British PM, Brown on his first official visit to the the White House, I could breath much easier. I feel our British allies are an asset to our nation and I hope he will maintain a warm relationship with them.

You are a wonderful new acquaintance. This reference article from the Telegraph leaves me with a much more positive reaction to the Obama/Brown relationship.

It's funny how I form opinions on small details. I believe both the Devil AND the Angles lives within the details though. You have helped me thru this one.

The bust was given to us as a gift and it represented unity. It was not a loan, and for that reason it was a insult for Obama to return it.....The British had it publicized in their papers and news channels....We disgraced them.....

Those were my exact concerns. The links that Tippy referred to me indicated that the bust was indeed a loan? If it was a loan, Obama did the correct thing.

Hi Jennifer,

May I suggest you google this information. There are hundreds of articles out there concerning the bust of Churchill. Almost every article verifies that it was a loan to President Bush from Britain. It was extended through the end of Bush's 2nd term and expired in January of 2009 when President Obama was sworn in. They offered to extend it through President Obama's first term but he decided to return it because he wanted to put up a bust of Abraham Lincoln (his mentor) and Martin Luther King.

Listen up. Obama gave the bust back when he came into office. He said to the staff get this out of here. He had it sent back to the British Embassy. His staff were not impressed, they were shocked. Why because Churchill fought against Socialism and his speeches are on the web under his site. He brought Britain to it's senses with his burning speeches against the Communistic/Socialistic pigs that were attempting to destroy his country. Obama is a total piece of that which men have thrown off for ages and lost their lives to destroy.
