&lt;p&gt;  Janissa gave you a good answer.  I would add that rather than seeing a general practioner, you see a sleep specialist.  Going to an expert on sleep will cut the time you have to spend trying to figure out what to do about your situation.&lt;/p&gt;

Because of work schedules we have to lump our sleeping together into one long sleeping duration. This is actually hard on health and clarity of mind. The long sleep cycles also make it difficult to remember dreams, which are important. It is how we have been programed that creates the biological compulsion to sleep the way we do.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;    If you notice, animals (in a natural setting) do not sleep in one large clump. They have a series of naps. They wake up after each nap completely rested and energized. Animals don't generally have sleeping problems, and this is the reason. They have not been programed to schedule their sleeping in unnatural cycles. &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;    With practice and proper suggestions, one can sleep a matter of a few hours and wake up completely refreshed and "ready to go." Our bodies, under natural circumstances, know when to sleep.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;    It is more natural to sleep in 2 or 3 cycles within a 24 hour period. Two- 2 or 3 hour naps with one longer cycle of 5 to 6 hours is a much more natural sleep cycle. The brain produces a chemical during sleep that must be broken down while awake. If one sleeps more that approximately 6 hours in one duration, their body must work harder to break down this chemical, causing sluggishness and a decrees in the body's strength and immunities.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;    I understand people's work schedules create what seems to be a need for a long sleep schedule. It is possible, however, to alter one's sleeping patterns without much difficulty. What one suggests to one's self is of major importance. While lying down to go to sleep, if one suggests to them self that they will have a good rest and wake up refreshed, this can be very beneficial.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;     For a while use an alarm clock to make sure of how long you are sleeping. For starters try taking two 2-3 hour naps, and one of a longer duration of 5-6 hours; all within a 24 hour cycle. You may need to experiment, everyone is an individual. You may even suggest to yourself to remember your dreams. It is through sleep and dreaming that the majority of our healing is done.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;   Your situation may be the result of the suggestions you give yourself about sleeping and the "sleep state."&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;  There is help available, and if you feel you need this then I suggest you seek support from honorable sources. There is help available. Your beliefs however, will color your experience, so it pays to become aware of how you think, what you believe, and what you expect in relationship to this situation. We all have beliefs about sleeping and dreaming; it pays to become aware of these things.&lt;/p&gt;

We have been taught things that are illusion, but, because of what you just said (fear), people feel that is all they have to work with.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;   Our social structures would be so much different if we were taught, as kids, about our own awesome creative and healing power. Unfortunately, we have been programed to believe that we are victims insteac of creators, so, we end up losing sight of our own natural and creative potentials. We lose sight of the fact that we are here to learn how we create our own reality; how we create the very lessons that we need to learn. By "giving" away our personal power, we lose sight of our own integrity....we become afraid. This is basically my whole reason for being on Yedda. To try to help people to recognize their own personal power.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;     It is amazing the resistance I get. People can become quite afraid, (angry) when their ideas of "outside" help fail them, or if an alternative is suggested.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;    Eventually we all learn. I would hope that we will begin to learn without having to violate ourselves and others in the process.&lt;/p&gt;
