Unlike other countries we lack the backbone to pass laws with such dire consequences that contain more than a fine and jail time for even first time offenses. Don't you think that might save more lives than turning this Country into a police state. It's time we dealt with the real problem and get a backbone instead of trampling on the very freedoms so many have died to protect. I'm surprised that our Chief Justice didn't take that lead, maybe he's the wrong man for the job.</p>

<foaf:maker><foaf:Person><foaf:name>sibervik1</foaf:name><foaf:gender>male</foaf:gender><yedda:age>58</yedda:age><foaf:homepage rdf:resource="http://yedda.com/people/149138710569754/?src=rss:qb:ap" /><foaf:img rdf:resource="http://static1.yeddacdn.com/images/defaultUserIcon_rmt9c1d22d.gif" /></foaf:Person></foaf:maker><yedda:post><yedda:type>question</yedda:type></yedda:post>

RE: Wouldn't a law with some real consequences do more than giving up the very freedoms so many have died for?

<p><strong>As an ex-military man, 1957-61, I do feel that the extreme right in this country is causing many problems. When you read some posts on this site, condemning Obama who has only served in office less than a year, I begin to question "What do they expect?" Bush almost destroyed this country and if anyone is to blame, it is the Bush Administration and not Obama. Truly I belive a lot of the anger of the far right is that we now have a Black man sitting in the White House. Whether that be the reasons for their hatred and mocking, I am not quite sure. But what I do know is after reading those posts, on this site, it is something terribly wrong with those people. Its not up to the Supreme Court to do it that where the judges on the local leval come in and do there jobs we elected them to do. And no to a police state as that gives the goverment more control over our lives.</p>

<foaf:maker><foaf:Person><foaf:name>lawbug</foaf:name><foaf:gender>male</foaf:gender><yedda:age>66</yedda:age><foaf:homepage rdf:resource="http://yedda.com/people/4956624168111/?src=rss:qb:ap" /><foaf:img rdf:resource="http://static1.yeddacdn.com/resources/00000011924/8cc5ebdf1e21db8.gif" /></foaf:Person></foaf:maker><yedda:post><yedda:type>answer</yedda:type><yedda:thread previous="http://yedda.com/questions/Wouldnt_law_real_consequences_627901247382603/ex-military_man_1957-61_feel_627881620372038" /><yedda:rating>3.0</yedda:rating></yedda:post>

RE: Wouldn't a law with some real consequences do more than giving up the very freedoms so many have died for?

<p>There is a fine line between protection from crime and protection of rights.
