I just wrote a contact of mine in Carlsbad. She may know someone who would take them briefly. There are boarding facilities though, and he should hit up rescue groups. If he's allergic it's not too hard to isolate the cats in one room of the house, like a guest bedroom, for only a month or so. I also think the idea of keeping them in a confined area is good. You should do fine with them at a distance and it would be less stressful for the cats too, not being taken to the HS or put into another unfamiliar place. Good luck with this.
