So, just what is your question? You don't ask one!

<foaf:maker><foaf:Person><foaf:name>citrine1</foaf:name><foaf:gender>female</foaf:gender><yedda:age>64</yedda:age><foaf:homepage rdf:resource="http://yedda.com/people/1494105130756/?src=rss:qb:ap" /><foaf:img rdf:resource="http://static1.yeddacdn.com/resources/00000013761/8cb9b2feb6b2a26.gif" /></foaf:Person></foaf:maker><yedda:post><yedda:type>answer</yedda:type><yedda:thread previous="http://yedda.com/questions/entertaining_food_drink_627621737385143/entertaining_food_drink_627621737385143" /><yedda:rating>4.0</yedda:rating></yedda:post>

RE: Having an engagement party - want to politely ...

It's customary at most these events that guests bring some amount of $$ per head, this way they dont have to bring anything....

However these are mostly school parties that i do, and when i invite a large crowd to the restaurant.

The fact that its your party doesnt mean you should bear the financial burden this may become.

Tell them to bring some $$ to the party and you will bring the refreshments.

Between my friends and i, its an understanding. I'm not sure though how you would tell them to do so.

<foaf:maker><foaf:Person><foaf:name>curiousOne</foaf:name><yedda:age>24</yedda:age><foaf:homepage rdf:resource="http://yedda.com/people/495207036811102/?src=rss:qb:ap" /><foaf:img rdf:resource="http://static1.yeddacdn.com/images/defaultUserIcon_rmt9c1d22d.gif" /></foaf:Person></foaf:maker><yedda:post><yedda:type>answer</yedda:type><yedda:thread previous="http://yedda.com/questions/entertaining_food_drink_627621737385143/Maybe_old_school_thought_host_party_149035017252756" /><yedda:rating>3.0</yedda:rating></yedda:post>

RE: Having an engagement party - want to politely ...

You can't. It is incredibly rude and bad manners.

If you want to have an engagement party, then you either prepare to pay all the costs or you scale back and have the type of party you can afford.

If you want to have a pot luck get together at which you plan to announce your engagement, then do that. But it's not a formal "engagement party."

<foaf:maker><foaf:Person><foaf:name>jkgrandma</foaf:name><foaf:gender>female</foaf:gender><yedda:age>54</yedda:age><foaf:homepage rdf:resource="http://yedda.com/people/8621166651217/?src=rss:qb:ap" /><foaf:img rdf:resource="http://static1.yeddacdn.com/resources/00000020264/8cc6b87ecd02be0.gif" /></foaf:Person></foaf:maker><yedda:post><yedda:type>answer</yedda:type><yedda:thread previous="http://yedda.com/questions/entertaining_food_drink_627621737385143/customary_events_guests_bring_head_149934714586750" /><yedda:rating>4.0</yedda:rating></yedda:post>
