How to be forcefull with your boss when you fel betrayed

i am a very motivated, ambitious individual who finds myself at a turning point at work. i have always been the one to take on new responsibilities and challenges at work in the hopes of climbing the company ladder. granted i have always been one to speak my opinions and beliefs but have for the most part kept them in check. i have worked absorbanant amount of hours without further pay, have always been a team player and feel gratified when the company and more closely my job are doing well. there are certain individuals at the company that show no ambition or drive and dont do anything outside of their quote unquote job description. basically they couldnt care less how the company performs. due to the bussiness climate our company is restructuring and i find myself in the postion being passed over and having my responsibilities deminished and certain previously unamed co-workers given positions of more responsibility and authority. which brings me to my question: do companies want employees that are puppets and "yes" people who just do as they are told without any input. should i become the lazy guy in the corner who stays out of sight and just the minimum required and that is the road to advancement. or, do i keep the dream alive that what my upbringing told me is true that you control your destiny and through hard work and honesty you will get ahead? do i keep my mouth shut about these position changes and just start looking for a new opertunity or do i voice my frustrations to my boss?

Sean, I see your dilema... and maybe you answered your own question while asking... if you are in a position with less authority but are preforming on a higher level (extra hrs... advice...) maybe your being passed up for a couple of reasons... why would a boss pay you more for a higher position when thay can pay you what you're getting now with no extra charge? then there is the question of control... maybe they feel if you were given more control you would cause problems with the extra authority given to you... you do seem ambitious but how are your ppl skills? do you believe you are a person others would want to work under? Or are you an over achiever and maybe a perfectionist... sometimes its not what you do or say... it's the way you are doing and saying it? You sound like you are a benifit to your company... and do a very effective almost perfect job... but I dont see you mention anything about your rapport with coworkers... maybe something to look at... good luck:))
