I saw a local Paramedic say on TV if somebody gets frostbite they will give them warm iv solutions. What are they and how different are they from other iv treatments? What is the result of giving them to one suffering from frostbite?

Thanks,

We also warmed the fluids with a machine that was at bedside attached to the IV fluids...Blood is also frequently but on a warmer.Again though I personally have never heard of putting them in a microwave in the 27 years I worked ER...but you learn something new everyday!!

This is done for hypothermia and for frostbite if it is severe enough..for shock and for trauma patients. Many times in the OR..anytime the doc thinks the patients temp is too low or might benifit from alittle warming this is used...to help keep the patient warm and ward off shock.

<foaf:maker><foaf:Person><foaf:name>Moski</foaf:name><yedda:age>54</yedda:age><foaf:homepage rdf:resource="http://yedda.com/people/6276217951673/?src=rss:qb:ap" /><foaf:img rdf:resource="http://static1.yeddacdn.com/resources/00000008921/8cb65ef4972b9f2.gif" /></foaf:Person></foaf:maker><yedda:post><yedda:type>answer</yedda:type><yedda:thread previous="http://yedda.com/questions/health_9510771919451/warm_IV_solutions_saline_solution_495485237538117" /><yedda:rating>5.0</yedda:rating></yedda:post>

RE: What are warm iv solutions?
