I think men are still more likely to have affairs because they have more opportunities but as more and more women leave the home and join the work force, they are afforded more opportunities to have affairs and their numbers are increasing.

Some years ago I was between marriages (first and second) and I dated a career woman (divorced with no children) who's attitude was that if men can be studs, women can be studettes. She felt that it was her right to pick and choose who she had relations with and under what circumstances and she absolutely refused to be labeled for this. I'm not advocating promiscuous sex but the fidelity rules should apply to men and women alike.

<foaf:maker><foaf:Person><foaf:name>gary999</foaf:name><foaf:gender>male</foaf:gender><yedda:age>46</yedda:age><foaf:homepage rdf:resource="http://yedda.com/people/5041577613589/?src=rss:qb:ap" /><foaf:img rdf:resource="http://static1.yeddacdn.com/images/defaultUserIcon_rmt9c1d22d.gif" /></foaf:Person></foaf:maker><yedda:post><yedda:type>answer</yedda:type><yedda:thread previous="http://yedda.com/questions/marriage_divorce_family_951380981393378/think_theres_difference_sexes_495343537653115" /><yedda:rating>3.0</yedda:rating></yedda:post>

RE: What is the ratio of female infidelity as against ...

Great answer by Gary999 ... actually his instincts and intuition on this topic are supported from some research that came out in 2006 or 2007.

According to that research, done of married couples who had been married at least 20 years: About 75% of men and nearly 65% of women (married over 20 years) had experienced extramarital affairs during their marriage. Sorry I can't recall now and cite who did that research and report, but I think they did a book about it.

That research compared prior research some years back and it did, as Gary suggested, show a narrowing of the gap between men and women who have extramarriatal affairs and some books on the topic of extramarital affairs do attribute that in part to more women in the work place (more opportunities), as well as to changes attitudes about women's sexuality (liberalization).

Also consistent with the experience Gary commented about ... the sexually liberated lady he dated who would not be demeaned about her active sexual life, there is a great (interesting, funny but also reflective) book co-authored by two women titled "The ETHICAL SLUT". It is same idea as the lady Gary dated; they enjoy their sex lives and refuse to look down on themselves or allow others to; and they explain their philosophy on it in and interesting, sometimes humorous, manner.

One last observation. Ponder this: If a man "gets around" (has numerous lovers), he is called a "stud" or "quite a lady's man" ... complimentary, or at least not generally in any derrogatory sense. Yet, if a women does the same, historically (in America) many in society use to (and some still do) refer to such a women as a "whore" or "slut" (for "putting out around town"). Talk about a blatant double standard based on gender, this is one of the most obvious I can think of!

<foaf:maker><foaf:Person><foaf:name>Rob</foaf:name><foaf:gender>male</foaf:gender><yedda:age>47</yedda:age><foaf:homepage rdf:resource="http://yedda.com/people/5041987612229/?src=rss:qb:ap" /><foaf:img rdf:resource="http://static1.yeddacdn.com/resources/00000013859/8cb179fef5c80e4.gif" /></foaf:Person></foaf:maker><yedda:post><yedda:type>answer</yedda:type><yedda:thread previous="http://yedda.com/questions/marriage_divorce_family_951380981393378/numbers_opinion_women_getting_away_627891227373036" /><yedda:rating>4.0</yedda:rating></yedda:post>

RE: What is the ratio of female infidelity as against ...

Lets face it if someone is cheating they aren't doing it by themselves. As the same old thing every night but then women freeze up after a while of being married a few years. Then we have to look at the medications we all take men/women each and that reduces sex drive. Then we factor in men/women with disabilities some cant have sex so there partner does go out. Yes there are over 101 sex positions there is such a thing thing as trying something different if you both argee to it so talk to your husband/wife and try some thing different but it must be agreed upon before you try this. As it is better than cheeting but for actual numbers you would have to take a poll on it as some will lie about it as most women/men have fanityises about the outher sex. As an old syaing goes the women all get better looking at closeing time. Just dont wake up and be suprised he/she may not look that good the next morning. And dont be suprised if you get any STDS that soap and water dont wash off as it goes both ways.

<foaf:maker><foaf:Person><foaf:name>lawbug</foaf:name><foaf:gender>male</foaf:gender><yedda:age>66</yedda:age><foaf:homepage rdf:resource="http://yedda.com/people/4956624168111/?src=rss:qb:ap" /><foaf:img rdf:resource="http://static1.yeddacdn.com/resources/00000011924/8cc5ebdf1e21db8.gif" /></foaf:Person></foaf:maker><yedda:post><yedda:type>answer</yedda:type><yedda:thread previous="http://yedda.com/questions/marriage_divorce_family_951380981393378/Lets_face_cheating_arent_Unless_350790341110648" /><yedda:rating>3.0</yedda:rating></yedda:post>
