I was at a political gathering and I heard a lady say that Republicans were out to bust the government. Wait, what I gathered was something like pushing us a point. The thing is I am too young too ask questions because when I did, they lady excused herself and the eyes started rolling around. I mean, it really got me to thinking, do they do this purposely, then use the Democratic Party as a scapegoat?

<foaf:maker><foaf:Person><foaf:name>life</foaf:name><yedda:age>56</yedda:age><foaf:homepage rdf:resource="http://yedda.com/people/3506881315464/?src=rss:qb:ap" /><foaf:img rdf:resource="http://static1.yeddacdn.com/images/defaultUserIcon_rmt9c1d22d.gif" /></foaf:Person></foaf:maker><yedda:post><yedda:type>question</yedda:type></yedda:post>

RE: What does "busting the government" mean?

I have never heard the term Busting the Government before, but I have heard of trust busting.

<foaf:maker><foaf:Person><foaf:name>TennisTchr</foaf:name><foaf:gender>male</foaf:gender><yedda:age>27</yedda:age><foaf:homepage rdf:resource="http://yedda.com/people/9514500415801/?src=rss:qb:ap" /><foaf:img rdf:resource="http://static1.yeddacdn.com/resources/00000000716/8ca6ac642473818.jpg" /></foaf:Person></foaf:maker><yedda:post><yedda:type>answer</yedda:type><yedda:thread previous="http://yedda.com/questions/politics_government_951880901170358/politics_government_951880901170358" /><yedda:rating>3.0</yedda:rating></yedda:post>

RE: What does "busting the government" mean?
I'm not sure how old you think is "too young to ask questions". If you can say "Why?" you are old enough to ask. I would encourage you to learn how our government is supposed to work, according to our brief, but powerful document called, "The Constitution". Many of the problems we are having in this country, nowadays, are because the people, including our congress, president and supreme court have forgotten what it says. Or, they are also trying to make it say what our founders never meant. And that is both Republican and Democrat. We the people need to hold them accountable and remind them that they work for us and we are not their 'subjects'. We must educate ourselves, vote and get involved.

I am not sure what was meant by the "bust the government" statement either, but at the rate that the government is going, getting bigger and spending us into oblivion, they need to get 'busted' for and obscene perversion of what it means to govern.

You say you're "too young". I hope you are young enough that you will have many long, healthy, happy years to learn about the great nation, her colorful history and help us become an even better nation for the future.

Keep asking and don't EVER stop! How else can we discover!

While both major political parties engage in this kind of behavior, we hear more about it right now because the "outs" (Republicans) are trying to "bust" the "ins" (Democrats), by engaging in rhetoric that only speaks to the negative aspects of an issue rather than to both the positive and negative aspects of that issue (and all ideas have both positive and negative points). Sorry for your bad experience at this event; don't give up, though; you have to be kind of "thick-skinned" and not take things personally in order to learn from this split way of doing "business."

<foaf:maker><foaf:Person><foaf:name>mmcirulis</foaf:name><yedda:age>60</yedda:age><foaf:homepage rdf:resource="http://yedda.com/people/504103973348295/?src=rss:qb:ap" /><foaf:img rdf:resource="http://static1.yeddacdn.com/images/defaultUserIcon_rmt9c1d22d.gif" /></foaf:Person></foaf:maker><yedda:post><yedda:type>answer</yedda:type><yedda:thread previous="http://yedda.com/questions/politics_government_951880901170358/BH_sure_old_think_young_ask_518110693047962" /><yedda:rating>3.0</yedda:rating></yedda:post>

RE: What does "busting the government" mean?
