This is possible with a little bit of reworking. You would...of course use the mounting brackets for the stern to mount the ram the same way you would have anyway but this time sideways. Here's the tricky part. You would to come up with a bracket that will pivot and allow the the force of the ram to change direction. For lack of a better example let's say you had the pedal assembly from a bicycle. If you changed the pedal position from opposite one another to 90 degrees one would push sideways while the other pushed down. You would want to have the bracket in hand before mounting anything to insure the distance from the ram to the pivot point are correct. That's all there is to it.
