What can I do to get rid of this MRSA?

What can I do to get rid of this Stapphyloccus viral MRSA? I have had it since I had my wisdom teeth cut out 2 years ago, and have since undergone one round of the IV antibiotic Vancomycin, but still have the MRSA. I have very painful abscesses that pop up, usually under my right arm in my armpit. I have to go have them lanced open on a regular basis. I bathe in Hibocleanse wash 2x a week, I put the nasal ointment Mupirocin up my nose 3x a day, and still nothing. I am afraid I am going to die one day because I cannot get rid of this. What can I do?

Get another doctor who specializes in infectious disease. Most likely, you picked it up in a hospital, nursing home, or health care setting. You should be able to find more information on http://www.cdc.gov. In the meantime, keep from getting discouraged. You're doing everything you know to do.

Thank you for giving me the web site address. At this point I will try anything LOL... I got it I believe when I had my wisdom teeth cut out, because I did not have anything until after that happened.

I picked up MRSA in January, 2007 through an unknown source. I had a pocket of infection in my groin, which had me hospitalized and had to be drained for about a week. My doctors in Rochester, NY were awful (except for the ones at the hospital), and any time I had a recurring boil he would simply treat me for the boil(s) with an antibiotic and call it a day, rather than giving me treatment to eradicate the MRSA. I live in Boston now and have awesome medical attention, and I can tell you that you should ask your doctor for Bactrim, two pills twice a day (it's a little harsh, but it will help), followed by the Mupiricin in your nose twice a day (religiously!) and the Hibocleanse. Try the Hibocleanse more than 2x a week if necessary, but cut back if it irritates your skin. And by all means, do NOT reuse towels, do NOT wear clothes more than once that touch your skin without washing them in hot water or dry cleaning them. That is something that many people forget completely. Towels often stay damp and harbor the bacteria that cause MRSA infections, so only use them one time after showering and then use a new one the next shower. I hope this helps...I'm still battling it but I seem to be on the winning end, finally!

I have been on Bactrim for the last 4 months, with no relief. I bathe with the Hibocleanse every day, use the Mupirocin up my nose and on the sores, and have had the IV Vancomycin. Nothing I have done is helping. Right now I have an outbreak of about 20 sores ALL over me. I went to my doctor and she prescribed me the same thing as usual. I cannot work due to this, I cannot get on disability, so what do I do now? I am so discouraged I cry all the time, am embarrassed to go anywhere, and fell into a terrible depression.

Hi,

First of all, it is bacterial infection not "viral" and MRSA, means methicillin-resistant staphyllococcus aureus. Recently, so many sub-categories has been described but it is useless for you to understand. What is important for you is it's treatment. As this organism is extremely resistant to most antibiotics (Penicillin and Cephalosporins), it causes lot of brain-exertion for even very experienced physicians because it's 100% treatment can not be predicted.

Your physician alrady doing what he or she can for it. However, ask him or her if he or she can prescribe you any thing to boost your "immune system". Sometimes, increasing the strength of "internal defense" may cause the relief from this tedious infection. Vancomycin, as your doctor did try, is one of few options. There are few new medicines which can be prescribed on "out-patient" basis.

As this infection poses lot of risk if hospitalized ( it mostly originates from hospitals, community health set ups and bacteria has become resistant already to most of medicine), that is why your physician not referring you to hospital because it can endanger your life.

There is another treatment known as "Phage treatment" offered by "Eliava Institute of Georgia". Contact them if they can help. OR

Ask your physician if he or she can prescribe "linezolid" or combination of Fusidic acid and Rifampicin, or combination of Rifampicin and Fluroquinolone, or Pristinamycin.

Do not get discourged rather look vigorously for its treatment and try your level best not to spread this to other persons who are in contact with you.
